location map

This postcard shows a version of the Tain coat of arms. It includes a representation of St Duthac holding in his right hand a staff garnished with ivy and in his left hand, close to his breast, an open book. The legend reads 'Taniae Sigillum Commune': 'the seal of the town of Tain'.

The card belongs to the Ja-Ja Heraldic Series. In the first decade of the 20th century almost a thousand cards were published in this series featuring coats of arms of British towns, as well as other heraldic emblems and tartans. The cards were very collectable at the time.
